Palin Thanks God for ObamaCare Ruling

by The Michael Show Podcast

One of the loudest cheers for the Supreme Court’s ruling upholding ObamaCare came from none other than Sarah Palin, who described it as a heaven-sent gift to the Republican Party. “Thank you, SCOTUS,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “This ObamaCare ruling fires up the troops as America’s eyes are opened. Thank God.”

She said the ruling shows that the health care law is “the largest tax increase in history,” although the tax penalty only applies to those who can afford health insurance but refuse to buy it, the Los Angeles Timesnotes.

Another strong reaction came from Rick Santorum, who accused Obama of disregarding the Constitution and displaying arrogance that surpasses that of Richard Nixon,Politico reports. He warned that Obama would be “a very dangerous president to re-elect.” On the other side of the partisan divide, Michael Moore was feeling triumphant. “The right wing has just had their worst smackdown since the day O was elected,” he tweeted. “The path of history continues to head toward univ health care.”

Santorum: Time to Ban Pornography

by The Michael Show Podcast

Forget bird flu. There’s already a “pandemic” sweeping America: It’s called pornography, Rick Santorum says.

“Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.”

As president, he’d appoint an attorney general who would ban “illegal obscene” content, he declares on his website. “While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration.”

Observers are weighing in on his comments, notes Yahoo News. The Daily Caller talks to a law professor who thinks Santorum could be successful.

Others are more skeptical. “Looks like he’s found time in his busy schedule of condemning ‘radical’ women for working outside the home and using birth control and now is turning his hot, penetrating gaze to manfolk-bizness,” writes Rebecca Schoenkopf at Wonkette.

This is for you, Rick:

Another Poll: Obama Tumbling

by The Michael Show Podcast

Another poll has found President Obama’s approval ratings falling sharply, and the Republican contenders gaining.

The New York Times/CBS poll found that Obama’s approval rating has dropped 9 points from just a month ago to 41%, with voters increasingly unsure about his handling of foreign affairs.

The poll—echoing a Washington Post/ABC poll released yesterday—found that Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have gained against Obama, who now holds only a 3-point advantage over Romney, and 4 points over Santorum.

Obama’s numbers have fallen across all demographic groups, although he still has a double-digit lead over both leading Republican challengers among women.

Romney and Santorum, however, hold 6-point and 5-point leads over Obama among men. Obama’s drop was especially steep among lower-income households most likely to be affected by rising gas prices, the Times notes. Some 54% of poll respondents believe the president can do a lot about gas prices, while 36% believe they are largely beyond a president’s control.

Rick Santorum: Birth Control Is ‘Not OK’

by The Michael Show Podcast

Rick Santorum thinks contraceptive use is wrong and a danger to the country.

In an October interview with the evangelical blog Caffeinated Thoughts, Santorum volunteers that, as president, he’d confront the “dangers of contraception” and religious groups who think it’s OK.

“It’s not OK, because it’s a license to do things in the sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be,” he says. “They’re supposed to be within marriage, for purposes that are, yes, conjugal… but also procreative. ” Some reactions:

  • Matt Lewis of the Daily Caller likens it to an “October Surprise,” adding that this “was not a mistake or gaffe,” but Santorum insisting on preaching. “When it comes to discussing such issues, Santorum should have practiced abstinence. He did not.”
  • Michael Scherer of Time notes that 99% of women aged 15 to 44 have used contraceptives, and only 8% of voters view it as morally wrong. “In politics, it is generally not a good thing to characterize something nearly every adult in the country has happily used as” wrong.
  • Connor Friesdorf of the Atlantic finds it “baffling,” adding that “Any politician who regards the adult use of contraceptives as a matter under his purview cannot lay claim to the limited government label.”
